About the game

Top Gear 3000 is a rear-view racing game you can play in your browser, in the style of classic pseudo-3D racers: the track rushes toward you with hills and curves, and you race each event against five rivals controlled by the game. Before the start you pick one of three cars: Lightning, Tornado or Traction.

The game is a three-track championship, Blue Coast, Hill Range and Red Desert, with three laps on each. Every race awards points for your finishing position, but what counts for the ranking is the lowest total time summed over the three races.

Features include three nitro charges per race, fuel that runs out and calls for a pit stop, and a choice between an automatic or a manual four-speed gearbox. If you like speed, also check out other racing games.

How to play

1. Pick a car to start the championship; the car stays fixed until the end.
2. Use the arrows or WASD to drive: up arrow accelerates, down arrow brakes, left and right steer.
3. Space fires the nitro, with 3 charges per race.
4. Press P on the yellow pit strip to stop and refuel.
5. Press C to switch between automatic and manual gearbox; in manual, Z shifts down and X shifts up.
6. At the end of each race, Enter or Space starts the next track.
7. Finish all three tracks: the total time of the races is your score, and lower is better.

Game modes

• 1 player. One player: you against five computer-controlled rivals across the championship's three tracks, ranked by lowest total time.

Tips

• Lightning has the highest top speed but accelerates slowly; Traction accelerates and corners better but has a low speed ceiling.
• Leaving the track cuts your speed heavily and hitting the side wall costs even more. Correct early in sharp curves like the ones in Red Desert.
• Bumping into a rival makes both of you lose speed, so overtake on a free side instead.
• With no fuel the car only crawls. Plan your pit stop on the yellow strip before the tank hits zero.
• Spend your nitro charges on long straights, where the speed gain pays off most.
