About the game

Find the Word is a word game you play in your browser. The game picks a secret word of 4 to 12 letters and you guess valid words until you get it. After every guess it tells you how many letters are in the right place, how many are in the wrong place and how many are not in the word.

What sets it apart is that the feedback is only a count: the game never points out which letters are right, so you have to deduce them. An A to Z notes panel helps, where each letter cycles between marked, crossed out and unmarked. You choose the language of the words, Portuguese or English, and the length, which works as the difficulty.

There is no limit on guesses: your result is the number of guesses you needed, and fewer is better. If you enjoy deduction with numbers, also see Sudoku or the other word games.

How to play

1. Pick the word language (Portuguese or English) and the number of letters, from 4 to 12, then click Start.
2. Type a word with exactly that many letters and submit it with Enter or the Guess button. Only words from the game list are accepted.
3. Read the feedback: letters in the right place, in the wrong place and not in the word. The game gives only the count, not which letters they are.
4. Use the A to Z notes to mark what you figure out. Click a letter to mark it, again to cross it out and once more to clear it.
5. You win by guessing the secret word. Giving up shows the answer, and Restart draws a new word.

Game modes

• 1 player. Single player: you against the secret word, with no limit on guesses. The result is the number of guesses, and each combination of language and length is its own variant.

Tips

• Start with a word of varied letters: the more different letters you test, the more clues the count gives you.
• Guesses that repeat a word you already tried are refused and do not use up an attempt, so lean on the history to keep track.
• Accents do not matter when typing: the game compares words without them.
